Aims of the Yoga Teacher Training

Aims of the training

  • to develop a holistic and in-depth understanding of body, mind and soul that forms the basis for integrative yoga teaching, geared to the individual needs of participants (“Yoga for every-body”) and nourishing and strengthening on every level
  • to root your teaching in a strong theoretical foundation of anatomy and physiology, applied yoga philosophy and spirituality, holistic health knowledge from Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, fascia science and nutritional science, and your own practical experience
  • to take your own yoga practice to the next level and anchor advanced asanas in your practice, along with further steps on the eightfold path — mastering your senses through breathing, concentration and meditation
  • to strengthen you as a teacher by building knowledge and skills that let you draw on a rich store of experience in your teaching
  • to sharpen your language and effectiveness as a teacher and to offer your students the right alignments, props and adjustments to take their yoga practice to the next level

Focus areas of the Yoga Teacher Training

Everyday medicine: yoga as therapy

Under the expert guidance of Dr. med. Julia Rakus, general practitioner, emergency physician and TCM doctor, we will go deeper into the anatomy, physiology and therapeutic aspects of yoga. With a sound understanding of the human body and how it works, you will be able to support each of your students individually and develop effective approaches to their needs. You learn to develop a comprehensive understanding of body and mind and to bring insights from conventional medicine into your teaching, as well as knowledge of complementary methods such as applied yoga philosophy and meditation, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, fascia science, Yin Yoga and yoga therapy. This holistic approach, combined with special modules such as pregnancy and postnatal yoga, lets you respond even better to your students' individual needs and offer yoga classes that are truly for “every-body”. We also build your confidence as a teacher with a first aid module designed specifically for yoga teachers, so you can react correctly and quickly in an emergency.

Spread the love: teaching yoga

Our training also places great emphasis on practical teaching methods, sequencing techniques and creating tailored classes for your students. Your teachers show you how to structure yoga classes effectively to meet your students' different needs and goals. You develop a set of methods and options to encourage and inspire your students, to meet them where they are and support them: through alignment, gentle adjustments (verbal and hands-on) and the supportive use of props (such as blocks, bolsters and mats). Because we are all different, every day, and being able to respond to whatever is there right now lets you create inclusive classes in which “feelgood” comes first for your students.

Touch and be touched: your yoga practice

One of the foundations of excellent yoga teaching is being able to draw on your own experience as a teacher. An important part of this Advanced Yoga Teacher Training is therefore strengthening your own practice, in theory and in practice. You are your best teacher! We don't only want to learn to touch, we also want to feel for ourselves how the practice affects our lives, on and off the mat. Part of this is finding your own way towards advanced asanas, because besides practice, the right approach is what matters most. In a playful yet effective way, we practise integrating challenging postures such as inversions and arm balances into your practice and your teaching. And there is plenty of fun along the way! But as you surely know, asanas are only a first step on the yogic path. That is why we also focus on living and integrating yoga in all its forms. With chanting, yoga philosophy and building or deepening your own meditation practice, you learn to add new elements to your teaching and to understand and teach yoga as more than a physical practice.

Modules of the Yoga Teacher Training

Module 1 — Yoga as medicine: yoga therapy, meditation, advanced anatomy & physiology

In this module we go deeper into the world of anatomy and physiology to develop a sound understanding of the effects of yoga and meditation on the body. We explore specific therapeutic approaches for using yoga and meditation as a healing method for various physical and emotional needs. To do this, we connect the principles of yoga philosophy that belong to the understanding of body and health in traditional yoga with modern insights and therapeutic approaches from conventional medicine.

Module 2 — The art of teaching: effective sequencing and teaching methods This module focuses on the art of teaching. We learn how to put together effective yoga classes and develop sequences that help students deepen their practice and reach their goals. We explore different teaching methods, communication techniques and how to build a supportive learning environment. Module 3 — Meditation and pranayama

In this module we immerse ourselves in the practice of meditation and pranayama to develop a clear understanding of how breath and mind affect the nervous system. We explore different breathing techniques and forms of meditation that help regulate stress, sharpen concentration and build inner stability. In doing so, we connect traditional yogic concepts such as prana, nadis and training the mind with modern insights from neuroscience and psychology, so these practices can be integrated purposefully and effectively into everyday life and teaching.

Module 4 — Yin Yoga & Restore, fascia and acupressure

In this module we turn to the quiet, regenerative practices of Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga and their effects on fascia, the nervous system and the flow of energy. We learn how targeted, longer-held poses affect connective tissue and promote lasting relaxation. In addition, we look at the basics of fascia science and acupressure to better understand energetic and physical connections.

Module 5 — Advanced asanas: learning and teaching advanced yoga poses

In this module we focus on deepening and refining our asana practice. We explore advanced asanas (postures) such as inversions and arm balances, and how to learn them safely and sustainably. Through precise alignment, body awareness and consistent practice, we develop strength, flexibility and balance on a physical and mental level.

Module 6 — Precision in touch: alignment, adjustments and the use of props In this module we learn how to use alignment, adjustments (through language and touch) and props effectively to support students in their yoga postures. We develop a fine sense for each student's individual needs and learn to give precise adjustments and alignment cues that help them deepen their practice and avoid injuries. Module 7 — Nourishing body & soul: nutritional science, Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine This module looks at the connection between yoga, nutrition and holistic health. We explore how to nourish body and soul based on insights from nutritional science, the principles of Ayurveda (Indian medicine) and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Along the way we see how we can adapt our diet and lifestyle to support our physical, mental and emotional health. Module 8 — The wisdom of yoga: philosophy, chanting and pranayama In this module we explore the philosophical side of yoga. We study the ancient yogic texts, go deeper into the concepts of yoga philosophy and learn how to understand this wisdom in a modern, urban context and integrate it into everyday life. We practise being in the here and now, chant mantras and work with the power of the breath (pranayama) to direct energy in the body and calm the mind. We get to know the principle of manifesting and practise following our inner wisdom. Module 9 — Feeling safe: first aid for yoga teachers

In this module we learn basic emergency measures and first aid techniques specifically for yoga teachers, directly from Dr. med. Julia Rakus, a practising emergency physician. We expand our knowledge of potential risks and injuries in yoga classes and develop the skills to respond appropriately and safely in emergencies. The focus is on students' safety and on creating a safe practice environment.

This training is the missing piece for all yoga teachers who want to offer truly excellent classes and reach their full potential as teachers. Our unique combination of medical expertise, a deep and holistic understanding of the body, applied yoga philosophy and practice-oriented teaching makes this training an invaluable addition for every yoga teacher who wants to broaden their skills and fully support their students in their practice.

Julie sees the mat as practice for mastering everyday situations and believes that how we behave on the mat reveals a lot about different situations in life. Sriram, Sarah Powers and many more.

Lea Büchele

In her work, Lea brings movement, breathing, nutrition and bodywork together into a holistic approach. Her classes are clearly structured while leaving room for individuality and personal needs. Shaped by her own practice and ongoing training, she combines structured sequences with flowing, intuitive elements and invites you to explore your own practice with awareness and nuance.

More about Lea Büchele Knut Rakus

Knut Rakus

Manager, travel junkie and owner of several yoga studios. Since 2007, Knut has been teaching intense classes in which the physical effort is only meant to be a side effect. Demanding asanas force our mind into maximum presence and focus — we arrive in the “HERE” and the “NOW”. For Knut, the uniqueness of each individual comes first — so the right encouragement and personal corrections are especially close to his heart. He has completed numerous teacher trainings & workshops all over the world, and his biggest inspirations include Danny Paradise, Stewart Gilchrist and Sriram. He has also been strongly shaped by Ashtanga through one-on-one sessions with Axel Dinse in Vienna and stays in Mysore, India.

More about Knut Rakus Benjamin Fink

Benjamin Fink

Benjamin travels to India regularly, above all to Mysore, where he is able to study and practise with exceptional teachers such as BNS Iyengar, Vijay Kumar, Saraswati Jois and Gregor Maehle.

For years, yoga, acrobatics and bodyweight and weight training have been part of his everyday life.
As a physiotherapist, Benjamin cares especially about the health side of yoga practice. That's why he brings his medical expertise and practical experience from his work as a therapist into his teaching. “Experimental & traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga” would be a fitting description of the style Benji mainly teaches today. Alongside his regular classes, he specialises in applied anatomy and training science, as well as handstands and arm balances, which he offers in retreats, workshops and one-to-one coaching.

Still have questions?

Anything still unclear? — We're happy to answer all your questions: just write to us at knut@feelgoodstudio.at

Do I need to have taught yoga already to take part?

It's an advantage if you have teaching experience, as you will be teaching during the training. But you can also take part without teaching experience. Our stated aim is for all graduates to finish the training “ready to teach” and fully prepared for teaching.

Anything still unclear? — We're happy to answer all your questions: just write to us at knut@feelgoodstudio.at

What level does my yoga practice need to be?

You don't need to master any “advanced” asanas to take part. You should, however, know the basic poses and the fundamental ideas of yoga philosophy, as taught for example in a 200-hour training or through regular practice with a yoga teacher. Beyond that, you just need to be ready to practise yoga and willing to learn.

Anything still unclear? — We're happy to answer all your questions: just write to us at knut@feelgoodstudio.at

What language is the training taught in?

The training is taught in German.

Anything still unclear? — We're happy to answer all your questions: just write to us at knut@feelgoodstudio.at

What are the requirements for receiving a certificate for taking part?

To receive an internationally recognised “Yoga Teacher 300h” certificate (Yoga Alliance: www.yogaalliance.org) and complete your “Yoga Alliance 500h”, you need to have completed a Yoga Alliance 200h training. To obtain the certificate, you must attend all mandatory training modules and hand in all assignments. Missed sessions can be made up by arrangement. We also expect you to be willing to practise yoga regularly and read the specialist literature for the duration of the training.

Anything still unclear? — We're happy to answer all your questions: just write to us at knut@feelgoodstudio.at

How do I apply?

No formal application is needed. Your 850 euro deposit secures your place in the training. What we would like, though, is for you to answer two questions about your yoga path before the training:

  • What does yoga mean to you?
  • What does your personal yoga path look like: how did it begin, where are you right now? Is there anywhere you'd like it to lead you?

We'll send you more information by email as soon as you have reserved your place.

Anything still unclear? — We're happy to answer all your questions: just write to us at knut@feelgoodstudio.at

Where does the training take place?
